Who is Auntie Seagull and
what are these books all about?
Author Julie V. Watson and designer
Helen Grant have always had a passion for exploring the skills of
homemakers of the past.
“Their great understanding of the basics allowed them to maintain the
family home, prepare delicious meals inexpensively from scratch and care
for their families without the modern conveniences of today.”
The duo have long wanted to reproduce
some of the neat stuff they have found before it is lost. They came up
with the idea of putting together a series of small books full of useful
tips, hints, recipes, and all sorts of lore gathered from family,
friends and their passionate perusal of old books and documents.
“In a moment of frivolity, we decided we
need a voice to speak for all of us,” they say, acknowledging that it is
the wisdom of those who have been their teachers, their mentors, that
make this information invaluable.
They created Auntie Seagull to be that voice.
Auntie remembers how to do an amazing
number of things. She likes to share her knowledge and hopes that
everyone learns the joy of doing for themselves, saving money and time
in the process. She hopes
everyone becomes addicted to buying locally, fixing instead of throwing,
and to taking pride in things they make themselves. |
