SPRING WORKSHOP SERIES
We begin our Spring series of Workshops for Writers with two
sessions that explore the subject of getting your book published to
take place in May. In June our attention turns to Romance and
Children’s writing with workshops presented by Brian Henry of
Ontario, who brings 25 years experience as a book editor and
creative writing instructor to his presentations.
Whether you just want to compile a book for your own use, produce a
small quantity for family gifts, or publish an end product for the
bookstore shelves, you can’t afford to miss these workshops! <<<<<<<<<<

GETTING PUBLISHED - COOKBOOKS AND OTHER NON-FICTION

An introduction to the process of getting your book published. What
does it take to produce a cookbook or non-fiction work that sells?
Join us for a look at the options available, the legal requirements,
and questions you need to answer. We take you from concept to
finished product with a look at the various options available in
2010.
GETTING PUBLISHED USING ONLINE PRINT-ON-DEMAND

Learn about print-on-demand, web-based publishing through the
experience of professional freelance writer/author who has
successfully published numerous books on line. This session will
take participants through the process of creating your book ready to
publish on line. Learn the answers to questions such as
- what skills are needed to publish online?
- how do I know the cost of my book?
- how do I get paid?
- how does income compare to that received from traditional
publishers?
- can I order quantities of my books?
- how do I fill orders for my books?
- what are the advantage of POD publishing compared to traditional? Workshop
leader Julie V. Watson has penned more than 27 books giving her
experience working with traditional publishers as well as
self-publishing using print-on-demand as well as local printers.
Watson has given workshops across Canada on a vast range of
subjects related to writing and publishing. She invites
participants to submit questions in advance to direct the content of
these two workshops.

GETTING PUBLISHED AS A ROMANCE WRITER

“How to Write and Sell a Romance Novel”
Get the inside story. Whether you want to write chick lit (like
Bridget Jones’s Diary,) a traditional Harlequin-style romance, or
woman’s erotica, this workshop will show you how. Learn the "secret
formulas" and how to brainstorm a story line. Find out how much
money authors earn and where the best opportunities are to get
published now.
Workshop leader Brian Henry has been a book editor and creative
writing instructor for more than 25 years, including seven years
with Harlequin, the world’s largest romance publisher. He teaches a
credit course in writing romance novels at George Brown College and
has led workshops everywhere from Boston to Buffalo and from Sarnia
to Sudbury. ^^^^^
GETTING PUBLISHED - WRITING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS
Monday, June 28th

$35, with an advanced or early bird rate of $30
Whether you want to write the next best-selling children’s books or
just want to create stories for your own kids, this workshop is for
you. Learn how to write stories kids and young adults will love,
and find out what you need to know to sell your book. If you’re not
currently working on a children’s story, don’t worry, we’ll get you
started!
